Modified Fish Meal Extract Agar - A New Medium for the Selective Isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa - A Preliminary Report

چکیده
A new bacteriological medium Modified Fish Meal Extract agar was tested for its efficacy in promoting the growth of P aeruginosa normally encountered in clinical specimens. 50 specimens each of sputum, pus and urine samples were cultured on Modified Fish Meal Extract Agar and the results were compared with normal Nutrient agar and Blood agar. There was 100% conformity in the results compared with the other selective media for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. One of the greatest advantages of this Modified FMEA was that no other organisms grew in culture other than Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The cost of consumable materials used in the preparation of fish meal extract agar being simple and cheap this media can be used successfully in the routine culture work for the isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from clinical specimens like sputum.

New selective agent for isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Results of minimal inhibitory concentration tests with a diversity of bacterial strains showed that 9-chloro-9-(4-diethylaminophenyl)-10-phenylacridan (C-390) inhibited the growth of all microorganisms tested (other than Pseudomonas aeruginosa) at 25 microgram/ml or less, whereas MICs obtained for P. aeruginosa ranged from to to greater than 100 microgram/ml. Therefore, C-390 was evaluated as a...
متن کاملNew selective medium for Pseudomonas aeruginosa with phenanthroline and 9-chloro-9-[4-(diethylamino)phenyl]-9,10-dihydro-10- phenylacridine hydrochloride (C-390).
A new selective medium (PC agar) for the isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was developed, consisting of 30 micrograms of 9-chloro-9-[4-(diethylamino)phenyl]-9,10-dihydro-10-phenylacridine hydrochloride (C-390) per ml and 30 micrograms of phenanthroline per ml in Columbia agar. PC agar was superior to phenanthroline, C-390, acetamide, and cetrimide agars for the selective growth of P. aeruginosa.

A synthetic base of acetamide and salts in agar permitted isolation of small numbers of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from swarming Proteus and other gram-negative species.
متن کاملSelective medium for Pseudomonas aeruginosa that uses 1,10-phenanthroline as the selective agent.
The MIC of 1,10-phenanthroline for 35 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains was 128 micrograms/ml, whereas 32 micrograms or less per ml inhibited all other microorganisms tested. On the basis of these results, a selective agar for P. aeruginosa which contained 15 g of Trypticase soy broth (BBL Microbiology Systems), 15 g of agar, and 0.1 g of phenanthroline per liter was formulated. Forty-four P. aeru...
متن کاملModified Pseudomonas agar: new differential medium for the detection/enumeration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in mineral water.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been implicated as a foodborne and waterborne pathogen and is now considered a primary infectious agent. In the present study, the survival of P. aeruginosa inoculated in mineral water was evaluated by drop counts on Pseudomonas Agar Base (PAB), PAB with CN supplement X107, PAB with cetrimide, PAB with nalidixic acid, and these media with added FeSO(4). Initial counts...
